How it works

How does HRT work in Las Vegas, in plain terms

Hormone therapy supplements estrogen as your ovaries wind down, which steadies the systems estrogen helps regulate. That breadth is why one medicine shifts several symptoms at once. The version we give Las Vegas patients in clinic.

  • Plain explanation

Where it acts

Las Vegas patient guide: four systems, one hormone

Temperature is the clearest of the four systems to explain to a Las Vegas patient: the band the brain defends narrows as estrogen falls. The hypothalamus regulates body temperature within a narrow band, and estrogen influences how narrow. Restoring it widens the band again, which is why hot flashes respond so well.

The tissue of the vagina and urethra is dense with estrogen receptors. Restoring estrogen thickens it, improves blood supply and restores lubrication, though systemic doses do not always reach it adequately.

Bone is in constant turnover between cells that build and cells that break down. Estrogen restrains the breaking-down side, which is why its withdrawal accelerates bone loss and why replacing it prevents that. Related reading: patient guides, bone health and osteoporosis and vaginal estrogen go further into it. Of the four, bone is the one a Las Vegas patient will never feel changing, which is why it belongs in the decision rather than the follow-up.

The timeline

How your Las Vegas assessment works

  1. Weeks 1-2

Little happens, and that catches people out. Estrogen takes time to reach a steady level.

  2. Weeks 4-12

Where most of the change lands. Sleep usually shifts first, then flashes, then mood and concentration.

  3. Month 3

The review. Early side effects should have settled and the effect on symptoms should be clear.

  4. Months 3-12

Vaginal symptoms continue improving, and the bone effect accumulates quietly in the background.

Why progesterone

The second hormone

There is a reason estrogen is seldom prescribed alone to a woman in Las Vegas who still has her uterus, and it is not about symptom relief. Estrogen stimulates the uterine lining to thicken, exactly as it did during your cycle. Left unopposed that continues and raises endometrial cancer risk over time.

Progesterone triggers the stabilising or shedding that used to happen monthly, which returns that risk to baseline. If you have had a hysterectomy there is no lining to protect and it is usually not needed. The detail sits in progesterone, hormone panel and breast cancer and hrt for the rest of it. A hysterectomy removes the reason for the second hormone entirely, which is why that part of your history comes up early in any Las Vegas consultation.

Common questions

Las Vegas hormone therapy questions, answered

What it does, how long it takes and why two hormones rather than one.

It supplements the estrogen your ovaries are no longer producing in quantity, which steadies the systems estrogen helps regulate: temperature control, the tissue of the vagina and urethra, bone turnover and sleep architecture. Progesterone is added where there is a uterus to protect.
Very little in the first two weeks, which surprises people. Most of the change arrives between weeks four and twelve. Sleep often shifts first if night sweats were the problem, then the flashes themselves, then mood and concentration.
Not exactly, and the name oversells it slightly. You are supplementing a falling supply at a dose chosen to control symptoms, not restoring premenopausal levels. That is a deliberate choice, because the lowest effective dose carries the lowest risk.
Because estrogen alone thickens the uterine lining and raises endometrial cancer risk. Progesterone counteracts that and returns the risk to baseline. Without a uterus, estrogen alone is usually appropriate.
No. Your ovaries continue their natural course underneath. Hormone therapy treats the symptoms and the consequences of falling estrogen; it does not pause or reverse the transition itself.

Patient reviews

Las Vegas patients on their hormone therapy

★★★★★

I had been waking three or four times a night for two years and had been told it was just stress. The consultation actually went through my cycle history. Six weeks on a patch and I am sleeping through.

What I wanted was someone who would talk about the risks honestly rather than sell me something. They walked through the clot data and why a patch suited me better than tablets.

★★★★★

The brain fog was the part nobody warned me about. Having a clinician tell me it was a recognized symptom and not early dementia was worth the appointment on its own.

It took two dose changes before things settled, which they had told me upfront might happen. The three-month review was booked before I left the first appointment.
